Entries now open for 2009 Building for Life awards
6 May 2009
Entries are now open for this year’s Building for Life awards.
Now in their seventh year, the Building for Life awards publicly celebrate schemes committed to high design standards and place making. In difficult times, they reward those who hold on to high aspirations, recognise quality and showcase the housing schemes where we all want to live.
The awards are organised by CABE and the Home Builders Federation. All entries are formally assessed by some of Britain’s leading housing experts using the Building for Life criteria. They select outstanding schemes to present with a Building for Life Award at a prestigious ceremony later in the year.
Wayne Hemingway, designer and Chair of Building for Life said:
“These awards are all about celebrating the kind of ‘good ordinary’ places we all want to live in. You might think that any homes are good enough with almost two million people on waiting lists for social housing. But quality matters whether you’re in a boom or a recession.”
Stewart Baseley, executive chairman at HBF said:
“In these challenging economic times it is particularly important to give recognition to high quality development, which is exactly why BFL was developed. It is important that we celebrate achievement and we would encourage companies to submit entries if they believe they have good contenders for an award.”
The 2008 awards saw six very different winners, ranging from a small town-centre regeneration project in Stockport to townhouses in Brighton, and the redevelopment of a large ex-military site in East London. Last year also saw a further 18 schemes achieving the Building for Life standard.
If you have worked on, been involved with, or know about a new housing development which you think deserves recognition enter it into the Building for Life awards now.
Deadline for entries: 30 June 2009
