South at Didsbury Point

Described as 'an urban village', this development aims to be a landmark in providing the intensity of city living in a suburban location.

Didsbury Point is situated to the south of Manchester, on a former hospital site. It is the largest development in the area. Although primarily residential, there is an element of mixed use, and a new business area is planned on an adjacent site.

The master plan provides clear neighbourhoods. Phase One comprises ninety-one dwellings, selling from £150,000 to £370,000 (2003). None are 'affordable', as it is considered that there is sufficient affordable housing in the area.

The house plans are varied, simple and generous. They include ground level apartments for those with disabilities, as well as two storey flats and four bedroom family houses. Buildings range from two to four storeys. Red brick is combined with white render and cedar cladding to characterise individual elements. There are large windows, gardens, balconies, tree lined parking bays and roads, and there is easy access to main routes. All these help in creating a desirable location.
