Brewery Square

Design process

GML Architects obtained planning approval for the master plan in 1998, on behalf of the site owners, Media Offices. Hamilton Associates worked first with Barratt Developments, and later with Berkeley Homes, when they bought the site. Permission for 261 homes was obtained in 2000. This included accommodation bridging between the different blocks, which provided more space without increasing the height or the footprint.

Media Offices appointed Dutch architect, Erick van Egraat, to design their commercial premises, and he was also involved in the overall layout of the site. Landscaping is by Eachus Huckson. Affordable housing - including flats with disabled facilities - was developed separately by the Southern Housing Group.
