Admiralty Quarter

Design and construction

Admiralty Quarter uses a concrete frame and dry wall construction with factory-made components for inner leaves, internal party walls and room division walls. This sped up construction, gave flexibility inside the apartments, allowed the use of different cladding materials and provided increased insulation behind the rainscreen cladding and rendered wall finish. Balcony elements were fabricated off-site and bathrooms and shower rooms were fully mocked up in a factory before being installed.

The main public space faces Queen Street, set back at a lower level with well-designed seating and landscaping. The retail space is flexible to attract diverse retailers.

All apartments are accessible by wheelchair and most are on a single level with door widths designed for wheelchair use. The scheme has achieved the Secure by Design standard.

Levels of thermal and acoustic insulation both outperformed the statutory minimum and the public car park achieved a Park-Mark Award, recognising it as a safe and pleasant public car park.
